What We Want to Happen Today

Results on Sunday were mixed for Sporting KC's playoff help as Columbus and Portland both pulled out wins, but KC got a little help from Chivas USA as they pulled out a late draw vs Philadelphia to keep the Union from passing KC. Another league game today to keep an eye on.

New York vs Los Angeles

What we want to happen: LA win

This is New York's game in hand on KC, they are currently 5 points behind the Wizards and currently reside in the last playoff spot. The Red Bulls would need to win their final two games (one at LSP) while KC couldn't pick up another point for the Red Bulls to finish ahead of KC. A loss would mean that KC could clinch their playoff spot next weekend when they host New York at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.

Since Houston and Portland play each other (on 10/14), a win over New York clinches a playoff spot for SKC no matter what else happens.

If Houston loses to or draws with Portland, and either Columbus or DC loses (or Philadelphia loses twice), then a win over New York also clinches a top-three spot in the Eastern Conference for SKC.

Of course, in the unlikely event that all of those things happen, then a win over New York clinches first place in the Eastern Conference for SKC.

If New York loses to or draws with LA tonight, and Houston beats Portland or vice-versa (no draw), then a draw with New York clinches a playoff spot for SKC.
