Gibson Named MISL Offensive Player of the Month

The Major Indoor Soccer League today announced that Comets’ forward, Leo Gibson, has been named the league’s Offensive Player of the Month for November. Gibson recorded four goals and four assists in four games in November and leads the MISL with 15 points. He has scored one goal in each of the Comets’ games so far this season (three three-point goals and one two-point goal) and recorded three of his four assists in the Comets’ come-from-behind 12-11 victory over the Omaha Vipers. In addition, he took just 12 shots in the four games, having scored a goal on one out of every three shots he has taken. Gibson, who played for the Rockford Rampage and Philadelphia KiXX last season, was a two-time MISL Player of the Week in 2009-10.

“I would like to thank the MISL, as well as my teammates and coaches for this incredible honor,” said Gibson.

“Leo has been everything we expected and more since he became a Comet,” said head coach, Kim Roentved. “We are so happy with the incredible and immediate contributions he’s made so far this season.”

In other Comets news, the team also announced today that defenders Tony Avery and Oliver (Ollie) Dyson have been released.

“These are two awesome, incredible guys who did everything we asked of them,” said Roentved. “Having Nate [Houser] back finally and signing Jeff Davis last week, we had to make a move on the defensive side. We wish both Tony and Olly the very best.”

The Comets next game is at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, December 11th at the Baltimore Blast. The game will be available for viewing via webcast at www.cometsindoorsoccer.com. The Comets next home game is on Sunday, December 19th against the Chicago Riot at 3:10 p.m. at the Independence Events Center.
