TV News and What We Want to Happen Today 10/17

A bit of news that might have been missed due to the US game yesterday.  Sporting announced that NBC Sports has picked up the team's final game of the season, October 24th at home against Philadelphia.  The game will still be shown on KSMO in Kansas City, and the NBC Sports broadcast will be blacked out locally.  I'm not sure many people in KC that can't make the game will care, cause that means they'll still get Callum and Jake instead of the NBC Sports broadcasters.  This will be the 5th time that NBC Sports has broadcasted from LSP this season, a shocking number considering only 2 years ago KC struggled to get ANY games broadcasted nationally.

What we want to happen today.

Only one day after the US national team game, MLS gets back to action tonight as Seattle and Salt Lake play on NBC Sports.

Salt Lake at Seattle
What we want to happen - tie

A tie would mean that KC would require just one more point from their last two games to guarantee that these two teams can't pass them in the standings.  That result coupled with a point by KC would mean 4 of the 5 Western Conference playoff teams can't pass KC in points.  What that would mean is that the only way MLS Cup would be played away from KC should Sporting make it would be if San Jose makes it as well.

Sporting KC to Light Plaza Lights

The Plaza lighting ceremony is a pretty big deal in Kansas City, it's been an ongoing tradition entering it's 83rd year.  And this Thanksgiving night, it'll have a soccer feel to it.  Sporting KC players Matt Besler, Kei Kamara, and Jimmy Nielsen will be throwing the switch this year.  Pretty sure this will be the first time soccer players will be the ones throwing the switch.

Amazing what winning does, it gets games broadcast nationally. The stadium doesn't hurt either.
