Sporting KC US Open Cup Update

Two bits of news about Sporting KC's trip into the US Open Cup this year. First, the opponent for next week's game is known. After being delayed by the weather last night, the Chicago Fire PDL of the PDL defeated the Madison 56ers of the NPSL 2-0. Two second half goals in the span of 2 minutes by the Fire booked their ticket to Kansas City for a game at LiveSTRONG Sporting Park next Tuesday at 7:30. Tickets are now on sale for the game they're $10 for season ticket holders and $15 for non-members.

The other news, is that if KC gets by the Fire, they will once again host at LiveSTRONG Sporting Park. Should KC win they will take on the winner of the Columbus Crew vs Richmond Kickers match up on July 12th. Either game would kick off at 7:30 no matter the opponent. Another chance for KC fans to see their team play at home. The game falls between a home game vs Chivas USA and an away game vs Houston, both on Saturdays.

how does the US Open Cup select it's home teams? Is it a draw like FA Cup or is it more about money and politics?

Teams bid to host games. It's not a blind draw like the FA Cup
