Sporting Back in Action Today

Sporting KC is back in preseason action today as they kick off the Disney Pro Soccer Classic down in Orlando, Florida. KC's opponent today is the Houston Dynamo, who defeated the Wizards in the Eastern Conference final last year 2-0 to earn a trip to MLS Cup ahead of Sporting.

The Dynamo have Brian Ching back after spending time with the Montreal Impact, who selected him in the expansion draft. Brian Davis is also working his way back from the injury that he picked up in the Eastern Conference final and may play a role in the game as well. Other wise, Houston is very close to the same team as last year. Gone are Carlo Costly, Danny Cruz, Hunter Freeman, Jason Garey, and Eddie Robinson, though other than Costly and Cruz the players didn't get a ton of time. Replacing them Houston has brought in Nathan Sturgis and Macoumba Kandji.

Based on comments during the Sporting KC show last night, KC will have mainly first teamers playing the game tonight. There will be a few absences for one reason or another. Specifically in the center midfield position, where Julio Cesar is away on personal business in Spain, and Paulo Nagamura is currently sick and unlikely to play. That would seem to put Luke Sassano or Michael Thomas as the favorite to start next to Roger Espinoza and Graham Zusi in the midfield. Espinoza and Kei Kamara are likely to play a part in the first two games before heading off to join their national teams for their games on Wednesday the 29th.

Remember that you can watch the game live tonight on MLSsoccer.com, the game is on Channel 2.
