Former Wizards Player Damian Silvera Passes Away

Had this pointed out today, some sad news, former Wizards midfielder Damian Silvera passed away in the middle of June. Silvera was an MLS original, joining the Metrostars in 1996. Before the 1997 season he was traded to Kansas City for Mike Sorber and a first round pick in the 1998 MLS college draft. Silvera was a member of the 1996 US Olympic team, but didn't live up to that potential. He only played in 3 games for the Wizards, a 3 game stretch in late April and early May, starting one game.

Damian's career should serve as a cautionary tale for those who think it's easy for all college players to make the transition to the pro level -
