Sporting KC Re-Sign Peterson

Sporting Kansas City announced today that forward, Jacob Peterson had re-signed with the club. Peterson had been out of contract after the 2014 season and had been in negotiations with the club about returning. With those negotiations finalized, that leaves just one player, Kevin Ellis, out of contract that still has an offer on the table from the club. Peter Vermes says they've made Ellis a "bona-fide" offer and the ball is in his and his agent's court.

Peterson's return though will see one of the more versatile players from 2014 return to the team. Peterson's played almost 200 games in MLS play over his career, mostly as a forward or a wide midfielder. Last year, Peterson added right back to his list of positions filling in there on a few occasions when Igor Juliao was unavailable or given a rest during KC's injury plagued season along the back line.

It's certainly not the flashiest of announcements, but for the right price I like this move. Peterson is a Vermes' player. He works his ass off, wherever he's asked to play. He's not going to be a huge contributor offensively, but will pop up with the occasional goal and assist. Again, if he's limited in his role, mainly as a spot starter or depth signing, this is a fine move that gives Vermes a work horse that will do whatever's asked.
