Sporting Juniors in College Cup

The bracket for this year's NCAA Division 1 soccer tournament came out today, and a number of schools that Sporting Juniors attend will be competing in the tournament.  Here's a quick look at those teams that contain Sporting Juniors.  Saint Louis is the highest seeded of the schools with Sporting Juniors at the 8 seed, and also has the most Juniors on their roster with 3, junior Alex Sweetin, sophomore Raymond Lee, and freshman Evan Wright.  Sweetin, a midfielder played in 17 of 19 games, recording 6 goals and 5 assists.  Lee another midfielder, appeared in 16 games and had 4 goals.  Freshman Wright is a goalkeeper, but made no appearances for the Billikens this year.  SLU have a bye in the first round and play the winner St. John's and Fairleigh Dickinson on November 18th.

The team with the second most Juniors on their roster is 12th seeded Creighton.  The Missouri Valley Conference Champs also get a bye and play the winner of Washington and Air Force.  Two freshman make up Creighton's Sporting Juniors contingent. Eric DeJulio played in 8 games for the Blue Jays scoring a goal.  Chris Tuso is the other freshman, but he did not make an appearance this year.

The next Junior is Christian Duke, a senior, who started all 19 of San Diego's games this year.  The Toreros have a first round match up on the road against Cal State Northridge on Thursday.  Should San Diego pull off the win, they'll travel to play the 6th seeded UCLA in the second round.

The final Junior is Derek Schrick at Southern Methodist.  Schrick appeared in 15 of SMU's 18 matches, recording 2 assists in the process.  SMU will be hosting their first round match up against Winthrop on Thursday as well.  A win and SMU earn a trip to play 10th seeded Louisville in the second round.

Once the season's over I'll post more complete stats for the Sporting Juniors that are playing collegiate soccer.

While on the topic of college soccer, some Juniors are currently playing for their colleges at the division 2 tournament.  Two schools with Sporting Juniors are still alive in the division 2 tournament as they enter the third round.  Friday the 16th in Oklahoma, Rockhurst take on Saginaw Valley State.  Rockhurst features sophomore Eric Moore.  Moore though hasn't appeared for Rockhurst this season.

After Rockhurst plays, another Junior takes the field for Fort Hayes State.  Fort Hayes has two Juniors, sophomore Eric Hymer and freshman Drew Wilson.  Hymer appeared in 17 of Fort Hayes 18 games, recording an assist from defense.  Wilson has been red shirted this year.  Fort Hayes takes on Northeastern State.

Good luck to those Juniors the rest of the way this season.
