Top of the East

I'd been asked this question both via text and on Twitter, so I figured I'd add it here for those of you that A) don't have Twitter, and B) don't have my phone number.

With the way that results went today, Sporting KC sits tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with the Columbus Crew. While the Crew have a game in hand over the Wizards, KC is currently in first place thanks to their superior goal difference. For Kansas city it's been a long time since KC has been in first place (even tied) this late in the season. The last time that this happened for Kansas City this late in the season was back on October 16th, 2004. The last date of the 2004 MLS regular season when they beat LA 1-0 at Arrowhead. KC had been in first place since a 1-0 win over San Jose on September 18th. So it's been almost 7 years since KC has been in first place after the first of September, last time that happened, KC missed out on the Supporters' Shield on goal difference to the same Columbus Crew, lost in the MLS Cup final, but did come home with some silverware that season. Hopefully KC gets a repeat and brings something home again this season.
