Saad Negotiating a Return to MLS? - Former SKC Wizards Update

Former Kansas City winger, Soony Saad looks like he could be making a return to MLS. Reports out of Minnesota are reporting that Saad is currently in negotiations with expansion side Minnesota United to return to the league with the club. Saad has spent the last two years in Thailand, playing last season with Pattaya United where he scored nine goals in 28 league appearances for the club. Sporting KC still hold Saad's MLS rights, so a return to MLS would involve United having to negotiate with Sporting KC to acquire his rights.

Elsewhere, three former KC players are set to compete in January's Copa Centroamericana. Recently released Ever Alvarado, who has signed back with his former club, Olimpia, joins Jorge Claros (who recently signed with Real Espana in Honduras) on the Honduran squad. Pablo Punyed is also competing in the tournament with El Salvador. Both teams kick off the tournament in Panama Friday with Honduras taking on Nicaragua and El Salvador playing Costa Rica.

Here's the rest of this week's update.

Collin Re-Signs, Bravo Looking for a New Club - Former SKC Wizards Update

The MLS offseason continues to move along, and one former KC player that was without a contract has re-signed with his old club. Aurelien Collin turned down offers from Europe, and is instead returning to the New York Red Bulls for the 2017 season. Collin spent most of the 2016 season with the Red Bulls after being traded by Orlando City early in the season. Collin helped stabilize the Red Bulls defense as they finished first in the Eastern Conference.

Elsewhere, former designated player, Omar Bravo is looking for a new club. He had spent the fall on loan with the Carolina Railhawks of the NASL, but with the season over, Bravo was returning to Chivas. His former club though no longer has a place for him and he too is now looking for a new club, with Jaguares reportedly showing interest in the 36 year old striker.

Most of the summer leagues are starting to wrap up their seasons, while European leagues are going strong. The indoor season is just now kicking off for other teams in the US though, with the MASL season kicking off this past weekend. All three former Kansas City players had games, and all three got wins with Jamar Beasley and Mike Jones both playing in wins for Cedar Rapids and Dallas respectively. Meanwhile, Boris Pardo, who moved to the San Diego Sockers this offseason did not play in the win for San Diego.

Kamara Made a DP, De Jong Joins Ottawa - Former SKC Wizards Update

The Columbus Crew and former KC forward Kei Kamara have resolved the contract dispute that the two had been in this offseason. After scoring 22 league goals in 2015, Kamara was looking for a pay raise from the Crew. Today the Crew announced that they had renegotiated Kamara's contract and Kamara will now be a designated player. Good for Kamara who had a major redemption season in Columbus after struggling at Middlesbrough.

In other news, former Sporting outside back, Marcel de Jong was not out of contract long after KC and de Jong agreed to terminate his deal. Today the Canadian international signed with NASL side the Ottawa Fury. He'll join fellow national team player, Julian de Guzman with the Fury.

Anibaba Signs with Houston - Former SKC Wizards Update

MLS teams are continuing to build their roster for the 2016 MLS season. The Houston Dynamo have continued this process by signing former Sporting KC defender, Jalil Anibaba this week. Anibaba played just one season in KC and will likely be best remembered for his goal in stoppage time that tied the game 2-2 against the Philadelphia Union in a game KC would win 3-2.

Elsewhere other players are now looking for a new team, specifically in Atlanta, where the NASL's Silverbacks announced this week that they were ceasing operations. Two former Kansas City players, Rauwshan McKenzie and Michal Mravec were members of the team last year and are now looking for new clubs.

Here's the rest of this week's update.

Wolff a Candidate for the Atlanta United Job - Former SKC Wizards Update

Future MLS expansion side, Atlanta United is still a year away from getting their first players, but are working towards finding their first coach. One name that has come up is former Kansas City forward, Josh Wolff. Wolff is a from Georgia and has played with the club's technical director, Carlos Bocanegra, so there are plenty of connections to make there. It will be interesting to see if he leaves Columbus for the Atlanta job.

Also congratulations to Jack Jewsbury and the Timbers on winning MLS Cup.

Gansler in the Hospital - Former SKC Wizards Update

Some sad news to report first this week. Former Kansas City head coach and Sporting Legend, Bob Gansler was hospitalized over the weekend after suffering a stroke on Saturday.  The 73 year old who led Kansas City to the 2000 MLS Supporters' Shield, 2000 MLS Cup, and 2004 US Open Cup is in the hopsital recovering from the stroke. The coach to take the US back to the World Cup for the first time in 40 years in 1990 is a US Soccer Hall of Famer and currently has the most wins for a head coach in club history.

In other news this week, it appears that Andy Gruenebaum is set to move onto his career after soccer. Gruenebaum was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in the first stage of the re-entry draft, but did not show up for preseason. Instead he has apparently decided to stay in Kansas City and start a family.

Also this week, Martin Steuble has signed with a new club, joining Ceres FC of the Filipino League. Steuble had been without a club after not having his contract picked up by Kansas City. Finally, in the silly season news, Yura Movsisyan has been linked with a move back to MLS. The Chicago Fire was the team according to the reports, but his agent denied the Fire had made an offer, but said one MLS team had. Movsisyan's MLS rights though are still held by Salt Lake, and any team interested in bringing him in would need to go through them.

Former SKC Wizards Update

Here's another week of former SKC Wizards updates. First, came word last week that Craig Rocastle will not be playing for the Missouri Comets. Instead he has moved to Greece where he's joined his former club, Thrasyvoulos Fylis FC, who is currently at the bottom of the second division in Greece. In other news, Ryan Smith has come out with his side of what happened when he left KC. While I'm sure that his mother's illness had plenty to do with why he left, I'm just not sure the full story is actually out there. But I'm glad he seems to be getting things squared away.

In other news, Rauwshan McKenzie and Mike Jones are going about the process of finding new clubs. McKenzie is trialing with Chivas during preseason, while Jones appears on his way to Denmark for trialing. I'm sure other players will be showing up in team camps soon as well. Here's the rest of this week's update.
