Kronberg Re-Signed

Looks like we are going to have ourselves a full on goalkeeper battle for the number 1 shirt this year with Sporting KC.

After the season, KC was down to just a single keeper on their roster. Jimmy Nielsen retired, and Eric Kronberg was out of contract, leaving KC with just Jon Kempin on the roster. Since the team has traded for Andy Gruenebaum and today the team announced that they'd re-signed Kronberg to a new contract.

Heading into preseason in about a month I expect we'll see Gruenebaum and Kronberg battle it out to see which one will be the starter come opening day. Whether both are actually still with the team at the start of the season is a question, but as of right now, KC have their three goalkeepers for the 2014 season.

I would still like to see us go after another keeper -- be it Pickens from Colorado or one from overseas. We will have plenty of games next season with league play, Champions League, and Open Cup that having three keepers who could start is important. Kempin is the future and will most likely be in Orlando or OKC. Depth and competition for spots can only strengthen the squad.
