Athletics One Win From Open Cup Berth

The KC Athletics moved within one win of qualifying for the US Open Cup over the weekend. Saturday up in Des Moines, it took penalty kicks, but the Athletics defeated the Des Moines Menace USASA team 4-4 (6-5) at Cownie Soccer Park. All the Athletics have to do to qualify for the Open Cup now is defeat AAC Eagles out of Illinois in a game tentatively scheduled for May 15th in KC. The Eagles defeated Fire SC out of Minnesota 8-3 in the previous round. Doing a quick Google search of some of the players listed in the lineup for their game against Des Moines, there look to be quite a few players (nine) that have played with the Legends in Kansas City during their club career. Good luck to Athletics in against the Eagles, I'll post again once the game time's been announced. Hopefully they can get a nice crowd out to cheer a KC based team into the Open Cup

Sounds great - does anyone know where they play? I'd like to check it out.

As my son Marty plays for the KC Athletics, I went up to Des Moines to watch the game. Last I heard the game has been moved to Sunday the 16th and may be played at the Overland Park Soccer Complex on 135th and Switzer.
