Dwyer Red Card Rescinded

In a move that surprised me, Sporting KC not only appealed the red card that was handed out to Dom Dwyer in the 87th minute of their 3-1 loss to Orlando on Sunday, but the independent review panel that hears the appeals rescinded the red card.

The appeal process required unanimous approval from review panel which includes a representative from US Soccer, the Canadian Soccer Association, and PRO, the Professional Referees, Organization. This means that Dwyer will be available for KC on Friday when Sporting take's on FC Dallas at Sporting Park.

The rescinding of the red card certainly had something to do with the reaction of Orlando's defender, David Mateos, who when Dwyer gave him a chest bump immediately grabbed his face like Dwyer had punched him or put his hands to Mateos' face and embellishing the contact falling to the ground. The incident brings back memories from earlier this season when Orlando's Cyle Larin was sent off for a challenge against Sacha Kljestan when Kljestan sold the contact when there was none. Larin's red card was rescinded as well.
