Sporting KC Select Adnan Gabeljic in 2nd Round of MLS Superdraft

Peter Vermes likes his fowards, that's for certain. For the third time in the last four years, Sporting KC has used a first or second round pick on a forward. This year, Sporting KC selected Adnan Gabeljic out of the University of St. Louis.
The St. Louis native appeared in 69 games over his four year career for the Billikens, starting just nine. He scored 14 goals and added seven assists. He's got decent size being 6'3" and 200 pounds, which could help KC to have a bit more size in the middle of the foward line.
He will have some work cut out for him though with the number of forwards KC already has. Especially at the center forward position where KC already has the likes of Claudio Bieler, Teal Bunbury, and Dom Dwyer. But preseason begins in a little over a week so he'll get a chance to prove himself.

UPDATE

Gabeljic trained with Sporting KC recently, which would certainly give some reason as to why Sporting would have chosen the forward. And he has one thing that Peter Vermes loves, he's an athlete. During the combine he finished second in his 30 meter sprint and had the 10th best vertical jump. And we know how Vermes loves athleticism.

At 6'3" with good jumping ability, I wouldn't be surprised if he got a look in the CJ Sapong role playing the backpost winger.
