Sporting Loan Palmer-Brown to Porto

After a number of additions to the team so far this offseason, the departures continue for Sporting KC as the club announced today that they had loaned 18 year old homegrown defender Erik Palmer-Brown to Portuguese side FC Porto. The loan will run through the rest of the 2016 calendar year and at the end of the loan Porto will have the option to purchase Palmer-Brown outright from Sporting.

Publicly the loan happened very quickly with news only coming out yesterday when Palmer-Brown left Sporting KC's camp in Arizona to head to Portugal to finalize the deal. A constant talk of transfer rumors (mainly Juventus) since signing with Kansas City, Palmer-Brown has appeared in 10 league games over his three year professional career and another two in the Open Cup and one CONCACAF Champions League game.

It'll put Palmer-Brown in a strong team that has a history of developing good players. The US youth international though would be unlikely to play much for the first team in this deal and would seem more likely to spend the majority of his time with Porto B in the Portuguese second division.

As a Sporting fan, I'm disappointed with the recent departures. I have trusted Robb and Peter to work toward creating a winning franchise. But I'm starting to feel like a Royals fan of the late 80s, 90s, and early 00s. Ugh.

EPB wouldn't play much for us this year anyway. The only departure that hurts is Nemo but we'll do just fine.
