Comets Win First Ever Match Against Detroit

The Missouri Comets moved to 9-1 on the season in the MASL with an 8-5 win over the Detroit Waza Flo in the first ever match up between the two sides.

The Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter with Vahid Assadpour and Robert Palmer finding the net. Leo Gibson made it 3-0 less than four minutes into the second period. A power play goal by Ricardo Lopes cut the lead to 3-1 around the mid-point of the quarter, which is where the teams were at when they headed into the half time break.

The third quarter saw the Comets extend their lead even further. Less than four minutes in Kiel Williams put the Comets up 4-1. The majority of the action though took place in the final five minutes. First Assadpour scored his second of the game with less than four and a half minutes left. With under two minutes left Assadpour turned provider to set up Ramone Palmer to make it 6-1 to the Comets. Costea Decu cut the lead to 6-2 before the end of the quarter as the two teams headed into the fourth with Missouri up.

The fourth quarter saw the Comets again score early, this time on the power play as Lucas Rodriguez found the back of he net. The Waza made it 7-3 when Zach Bowman scored around the midpoint of the quarter. With just over five minutes left, Rodriguez found his second goal of the quarter to make it 8-3. The Waza made it close late in the quarter after pulling their goalkeeper, scoring twice in the final three minutes through Danny Dragoi and Nik Djokic but it wasn't enough to get them all the way back as they fell 8-5.
