Sporting Chasing Left Sided Spanish Player

Yesterday morning I woke up to a Tweet from Sergio Gutierrez, an editor for FutbolMLS.net stating that KC was interested in left sided Spanish player, Antonio (Toni) Rodriguez Dovale. At the time I did a quick search on the internet in US and Spanish media but I could not find anything. Today though I got another tweet from Gutierrez stating that Rodriguez wanted to break his contract with Celta Vigo to sign with KC.

From looking around the net tonight there are more legs to the rumor than there were yesterday. A number of Spanish sources are reporting Rodriguez has interest from Sporting and is wanting to terminate his current deal (which apparently runs through 2016) to sign in the US.

Rodriguez started his career as a forward. Most recently for his Spanish club, Celta Vigo, though Rodriguez has moved to the back to play the left back position for the La Liga side. His ability to play on the left certainly has to be a plus for KC, who has looked for more of a pure left winger in their 4-3-3. And with his ability to play left back that is certainly something that Vermes has to like especially with how he likes his wingbacks to get forward in this formation. So the ability to cover and play defense is a plus.

The one thing in many of the articles that is causing me to question it just a bit is the fact that many say that Rodriguez has offers from Kansas City and two other MLS clubs. With MLS' discovery system it just causes me a moment of pause. Although if he'd come in as a designated player I guess that would change things a bit with the discovery process.
