Three Sporting Players Named to All Star Game First XI

Last night before the US men's team played at Sporting Park, the "First XI" for this year's MLS All Star team was announced on Fox Sports 1. Three Sporting KC players were represented in the "First XI" that will be available for selection by Colorado head coach, Pablo Mastroeni. Matt Besler, Benny Feilhaber, and Graham Zusi will all be available for the game on the 29th against Tottenham at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The three will not necessarily start the game for the MLS All Stars, but they will be available to play in the game.

I've made my feelings on the All Star Game known in the past, and I'm not going to rehash those things here. For KC, the All Star game will fall between a Friday night game in Salt Lake on July 24th, and a Saturday night home game on August 1st against the Houston Dynamo. Both could be very big games for KC, with both teams currently behind KC in the standings. The game is also a little over a week after Sporting's US Open Cup quarterfinal against the Dynamo as well.

One thing that could keep some players from playing may be the Gold Cup, if Zusi stays with the US into the knock out rounds and/or Besler gets called up as a replacement, they could very well be replaced on the All Star roster to allow them to recover.
